NCPD officer-involved shooting closed part of Hwy 78, SLED investigating

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) — A North Charleston officer-involved shooting left a part of Highway 78 temporarily closed Tuesday night.

North Charleston Police were involved in a vehicle pursuit around 9:30 p.m., said NCPD spokesman Harve Jacobs.

The pursuit ended near the intersection of Highway 78 and Shipley Street, and the occupant of the vehicle fled on foot, said NCPD.

When the suspect fled, shots were fired by police. There is no word on injuries or whether a suspect is in custody.

NCPD requested the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division to investigate the incident. It is standard practice for SLED to investigate officer-involved shootings.

Jacobs said all officers involved in the incident have been placed on administrative duty per NCPD policy.
