Man partially ejected from vehicle identified in Hwy 78 crash

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – The Charleston County Coroner’s Office has identified a man from Guatemala as the deceased in Wednesday night’s crash on Highway 78.

Juan Garcia, 20, of Guatemala died at 3:59 p.m. at the Trident Medical Center following sustaining injuries from the collision, the coroner reports.

The collision occurred on Hwy 78 at Wisteria Street in Ladson, deputies say Garcia was a passenger in a vehicle that was turning left from Wisteria Street onto Hwy 78 and did not yield to the right of way, striking another vehicle.

The vehicle that was struck was forced off the road into a ditch, entrapping the driver, officials say.

The vehicle Garcia was in was overturned upon impact and he was partially ejected from the vehicle.

Highway 78 was closed for around two hours, with the road reopening just before 4 p.m.
