Public Day Dock on Shem Creek to be replaced

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCBD) – Construction will begin next month to replace a public day dock on Shem Creek, Mount Pleasant town leaders said.

The floating dock is located off the Shem Creek Boardwalk and roughly across the creek from the Shem Creek Shrimp Dock and Processing Facility, which is also under construction. It can typically be accessed just down from popular restaurants and Shem Creek Inn.

Work to replace the dock is expected to begin in mid-July and last about 10 weeks. Town leaders say the schedule could change based on weather and conditions for the delivery of materials.

“This is a routine part of the Town’s Comprehensive Maintenance Program, which includes replacing the floating dock, pile repairs, and associated hardware due to the floating dock being at the end of design service life,” said town leaders.

The boardwalks at Shem Creek Park will remain open. Only the floating dock will be impacted.
