Student arrested for bringing gun to North Charleston school

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – The North Charleston Police Department (NCPD) arrested a student Thursday for allegedly bringing a gun to a North Charleston school.

According to NCPD, officers arrested a Liberty Hill Academy student for bringing a gun onto school grounds.

The student was “lodged in juvenile jail” as of Thursday afternoon, NCPD said.

An incident report was not immediately available.

A spokesperson for the Charleston County School District (CCSD) said that the school was not placed on lockdown because the gun was immediately recovered and there was no threat to the school.

According to CCSD’s website, Liberty Hill Academy is an alternative school serving K-8 students. Students routinely go through metal detectors or wands before entering the school.
